Thinking of hosting an in-person event?
In-person event hosts are an essential role in our organisation because they make UBI visible in local communities, growing our membership base to increase our influence and capacity, and ultimately introduce a Universal Basic Income in Australia.
They help turn interest into action by welcoming newcomers, facilitating inclusive discussion, and connecting people to clear next steps for more active involvement.
Your expected duties as host
- Book a venue: Research, contact, and secure a venue.
- Schedule the event: Choose the date and time.
- Promote the event: Work with the BIA team to create social media posts to promote the event. You are also encouraged to promote the event within your own networks.
- Coordinate supplies: Print at least one sign to help newcomers identify the event. A minimum of an A4 stand is recommended.
- Order food/drinks: Where appropriate, facilitate the ordering of food/drinks at the venue.
- Encourage attendees to sign up as members: Where appropriate, direct members to the membership page of our website or gather contact details of attendees for manual/offline signup.
- Take photos of the event: With guests permission, take photos of the event for BIA's future communications materials.
Support you can expect from BIA
- Reimbursement of event costs (e.g. food and printing).
- Event promotion on social media.
- Graphics for promotional documents, such as signage, flyers and business cards. Typically provided in digital format for local printing.
- Connection with a larger network of meetings and UBI activists.
